ܒܫܢܬ ܬܠܬ ܠܗܘܫܥ ܒܪ ܐܠܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܡܠܟ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܒܪ ܐܚܙ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ

Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

ܒܪ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܡܫ ܫܢ̈ܝܢ ܟܕ ܐܡܠܟ ܘܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܬܫܥ ܫܢܝ̈ܢ ܐܡܠܟ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܫܡܐ ܕܐܡܗ ܐܟܝ ܒܪܬ ܙܟܪܝܐ

He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

ܘܥܒܕ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܥܒܕ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ
'bwhy dwyd debd 'yk mry' qdm dshpyr webd
He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.

ܘܗܘ ܐܥܒܪ ܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܘܬܒܪ ܩܝ̈ܡܬܐ ܘܦܣܩ ܕܚ̈ܠܬܐ ܘܦܣܩ ܚܘܝܐ ܕܢܚܫܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܛܥܘ ܒܢܝ̈ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܬܪܗ ܘܣܝܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܒܣ̈ܡܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܩܪܐܘܗܝ ܢܚܫܬܢ

He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.

ܘܒܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܣܒܪ ܘܒܬܪܗ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܟܘܬܗ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܐܦ ܠܐ ܒܕܗܘܘ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ
qdmwhy bdhww l' w'p dyhwd' mlk' bklhwn 'kwthh hw' l' wbthrh sbr d'ysryl 'lh' wbmry'
He trusted in Yahweh, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.

ܘܐܬܕܒܩ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܣܛܐ ܡܢ ܒܬܪܗ ܘܢܛܪ ܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܘܗܝ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܘܫܐ
lmwsh' mry' dpqd 'yk pwqdnwhy wnTr bthrh mn sT' wl' bmry' w'thdbq
For he joined with Yahweh. He didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yahweh commanded Moses.

ܘܗܘܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܠܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܙܠ ܗܘܐ ܙܟܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܡܪܕ ܥܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܘܠܐ ܦܠܚܗ
plkhh wl' d'thwr mlk' el wmrd hw' zk' hw' d'zl wl'yk' emh mry' whw'
Yahweh was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.

ܘܗܘ ܡܚܐ ܠܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܥܐܙܐ ܘܠܬܚ̈ܘܡܝܗ ܡܢ ܡܓܕܠ ܢܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܥܫܝܢܬܐ
eshynth' lqryth' wedm' nTwr' mgdl mn wlthkhwmyh le'z' edm' lplshthy' mkh' whw
He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

ܘܒܫܢܬܐ ܪܒܝܥܝܬܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܗܝ ܗܝ ܫܢܬܐ ܫܒܝܥܝܬܐ ܠܗܘܫܥ ܒܪ ܐܠܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܣܠܩ ܫܠܡܢܥܣܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܥܠ ܫܡܪܝܢ ܘܫܪܐ ܥܠܝܗ

In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.

ܘܟܒܫܗ ܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܬܠܬ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ ܒܫܢܬ ܫܬ ܠܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܗܝ ܗܝ ܫܢܬ ܬܫܥ ܠܗܘܫܥ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܬܟܒܫܬ ܫܡܪܝܢ

At the end of three years they took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

ܘܓܠܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܐܬܘܪ ܘܐܫܪܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܚܠܚ ܘܒܚܒܪ ܢܗܪ ܓܘܙܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܡܕܝ

The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

ܥܠ ܕܠܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܒܩܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗܘܢ ܘܥܒܪܘ ܥܠ ܩܝܡܗ ܘܟܘܠ ܕܦܩܕ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܘܫܐ ܥܒܕܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܘܠܐ ܥܒܕܘ
ebdw wl' shmew l' dmry' ebdh mwsh' 'nwn dpqd wkwl qymh el webrw 'lhhwn dmry' bqlh shmew dl' el
because they didn’t obey Yahweh their God’s voice, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, and would not hear it or do it.

ܘܒܫܢܬ ܐܪܒܥܣܪܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܣܠܩ ܣܢܚܪܝܒ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܥܠ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܥܫ̈ܝܢܬܐ ܘܐܚܕ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ
'nyn w'khd eshynth' dyhwd' qwry' klhyn el d'thwr mlk' snkhryb slq khzqy' lmlk' 'rbesr' wbshnth
Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

ܘܫܠܚ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܠܟܝܫ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܚܛܝܬ ܗܦܘܟ ܡܢܝ ܘܡܕܡ ܕܪܡܐ ܐܢܬ ܥܠܝ ܫܩܠ ܐܢܐ ܘܐܪܡܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܥܠ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܟܟܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܟܣܦܐ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ ܟܟܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܕܗܒܐ
ddhb' kkryn wthlthyn dksp' kkryn thlthm'' khzqy' el d'thwr mlk' w'rmy 'n' shql ely 'nth drm' wmdm mny hpwk khTyth lh w'mr llkysh d'thwr lmlk' dyhwd' mlk' khzqy' wshlkh
Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

ܘܝܗܒ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܟܠܗ ܟܣܦܐ ܕܐܫܬܟܚ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܒܝܬ ܓܙܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܡܠܟܐ
mlk' dbyth gz' wbyth dmry' bbythh d'shthkkh ksp' klh khzqy' wyhb
Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in Yahweh’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.

ܒܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܩܠܦ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܣ̈ܟܦܬܐ ܕܩܪܡ ܗܘܐ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ

At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of Yahweh’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

ܘܗܦܟ ܫܕܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܠܬܐܪܬܢ ܘܠܪܒ ܫ̈ܩܐ ܘܠܪܒ ܣܝܣܩ ܡܢ ܠܟܝܫ ܠܘܬ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܡ ܚܝܠܐ ܥܫܝܢܐ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܣܠܩܘ ܥܠ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܩܡܘ ܒܡܣܩܢܐ ܕܝܡܬܐ ܥܠܝܬܐ ܕܒܫܒܝܠ ܚܩܠܗ ܕܩܨܪܐ

The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

ܘܩܪܘ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܘܢܦܩܘ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܐܠܝܩܝܡ ܒܪ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܪܒܝܬܐ ܘܫܒܢܐ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܝܘܐܚ ܒܪ ܐܣܦ ܡܥܗܕܢܐ
mehdn' 'sp br wyw'kh spr' wshbn' rbyth' khlqy' br 'lyqym lwthhwn wnpqw lmlk' wqrw
When they had called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder came out to them.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܪܒ ܫܩ̈ܐ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܚܙܩܝܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܒܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܡܢܘ ܬܘܟܠܢܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܐܬܬܟܠܬ

Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “What confidence is this in which you trust?

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܟ ܡܡܠܠܐ ܕܣ̈ܦܘܬܐ ܘܬܪܥܝܬܐ ܘܓܢܒܪܘܬܐ ܠܩܪܒܐ ܗܫܐ ܥܠ ܡ̇ܢ ܗܘ ܐܬܬܟܠܬ ܕܡܪܕܬ ܥܠܝ
ely dmrdth 'ththklth hw mn el hsh' lqrb' wgnbrwth' wthreyth' dspwth' mmll' bk d'yth w'mrth
You say (but they are but vain words), ‘There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?

ܗܐ ܐܬܬܟܠܬ ܥܠ ܣܡܟܐ ܕܩܢܝܐ ܐܪܥܝܥܐ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܐ ܕܡܐ ܕܐܣܬܡܟ ܓܒܪܐ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܥܐܠ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܘܒܙܥ ܠܗ ܗܟܢܐ ܗܘ ܦܪܥܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܠܟܠ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܡܬܬܟܠܝܢ ܥܠܘܗܝ
elwhy dmththklyn mn lkl dmtsryn mlk' prewn hw hkn' lh wbze b'ydh e'l elwhy gbr' d'sthmk dm' mtsry' el 'reye' dqny' smk' el 'ththklth h'
Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

ܘܐܢ ܬܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܕܥܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܐܬܬܟܠܢ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܥܒܪ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܘܡܕܒ̈ܚܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܕܩܕܡ ܡܕܒܚܐ ܚܕ ܬܣܓܕܘܢ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ
b'wrshlm thsgdwn khd mdbkh' dqdm wl'wrshlm lyhwd' w'mr wmdbkh' elwth' khzqy' d'ebr hw hw' l' 'ththkln 'lhn mry' del ly th'mr w'n
But if you tell me, ‘We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?

ܘܗܫܐ ܐܬܚܠܛܘ ܥܡ ܡܪܝ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܬܘܪܝܐ ܘܐܬܠ ܠܟ ܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܪ̈ܟܫܐ ܐܢ ܐܝܬ ܠܟ ܦܪ̈ܫܐ ܕܬܪܟܒ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ
elyhwn dthrkb prsh' lk 'yth 'n rksh' 'lpyn thryn lk w'thl 'thwry' mlk' mry em 'thkhlTw whsh'
Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.

ܘܐܝܟܢܐ ܡܗܦܟ ܐܢܬ ܐ̈ܦܐ ܕܚܕ ܡܢ ܚܐܪ̈ܐ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܐܬܬܟܠܬ ܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܨܪܝܐ. ܐܝܟ ܕܢܬܠ ܠܟ ܡܪ̈ܟܒܬܐ ܘܦܪ̈ܫܐ

How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

ܘܗܫܐ ܕܠܡܐ ܣܒܪ ܐܢܬ ܕܒܠܥܕ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܣܠܩܬ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܗܕܐ ܠܡܚܪܒܘܬܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܘ ܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܣܩ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܗܕܐ ܘܐܚܪܒܝܗ
w'khrbyh hd' 're' el sq ly 'mr hw mry' lmkhrbwthh hd' 're' el slqth mry' mn dbled 'nth sbr dlm' whsh'
Have I now come up without Yahweh against this place to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”

ܘܐܡܪ ܐܠܝܩܝܡ ܒܪ ܚܠܩܝܐ ܘܫܒܢܐ ܘܝܘܐܚ ܠܪܒ ܫܩ̈ܐ ܡܠܠ ܥܡ ܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܐܪܡܐܝܬ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܡܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܘܠܐ ܬܡܠܠ ܥܡܢ ܝܗܘܕܐܝܬ ܩܕܡ ܥܡܐ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܥܠ ܫܘܪܐ
shwr' el dqymyn em' qdm yhwd'yth emn thmll wl' khnn dshmeyn mTl 'rm'yth ebdyk em mll shq' lrb wyw'kh wshbn' khlqy' br 'lyqym w'mr
Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. Don’t speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܪܒ ܫܩ̈ܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܘܠܘܬ ܡܪܟܘܢ ܫܕܪܢܝ ܡܪܝ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܠܐ ܠܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܝܬܒܝܢ ܥܠ ܫܘܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܢܐܟܠܘܢ ܬܒܬܗܘܢ ܘܢܫܬܘܢ ܬܝܢ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܥܡܟܘܢ

But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”

ܘܩܡ ܪܒ ܫ̈ܩܐ ܘܩܪܐ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܝܗܘܕܐܝܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܫܡܥܘ ܦܬܓܡ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܪܒܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ

Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܐ ܢܛܥܝܟܘܢ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܦܨܝܘܬܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܝ
'ydy mn lmptsywthkwn mshkkh dl' mTl khzqy' nTeykwn l' mlk' 'mr hkn'
The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.

ܘܠܐ ܢܬܟܠܟܘܢ ܚܙܩܝܐ ܥܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܐܡܪ ܕܡܦܨܝܘ ܡܦܨܐ ܠܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܬܠܡܐ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ
d'thwr dmlk' b'ydwhy hd' qryth' mshthlm' wl' mry' ln mpts' dmptsyw wn'mr mry' el khzqy' nthklkwn wl'
Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”

ܠܐ ܬܫܡܥܘܢ ܠܚܙܩܝܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܬܘܪ ܥܒܕܘ ܥܡܝ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܘܦܘܩܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܐܟܘܠܘ ܐܢܫ ܓܘܦܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܐܢܫ ܬܐ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܘܐܫܬܘ ܐܢܫ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܕܓܘܒܗ
dgwbh my' 'nsh w'shthw th'nwhy w'nsh gwpnwhy 'nsh w'kwlw lwthy wpwqw bwrkth' emy ebdw d'thwr mlk' 'mr dhkn' mTwl lkhzqy' thshmewn l'
Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;
